The original Chapter house is now 85 years old and the addition is just over 50 years old. While the basic structure is still sound the Chapter House is in need of renovations and upgrades if it is to remain a viable home for undergraduates. The electrical system was not designed for the needs of today’s students and the study rooms are not configured for the computer based student environment. The exterior of the house is in need of renovations including a new roof and upgrading of the exterior siding. Also, the City of Ames has mandated we install a sprinkler system by October 2016 or we will no longer be able to occupy the house. The cost of these renovations is beyond what can be funded from normal Chapter operations. Mu Association finds it necessary to ask our alumni members to help with these critical improvements.
By the summer of 2016 we need to install a sprinkler and central alarm system. The improvements include a new water service, sprinkler piping and heads, central fire alarm system and repairing the areas impacted by the sprinkler installation.

Goal
The second priority is to replace the roof and repair the exterior siding of the House. The phase of the project includes upgrading the electrical system to support the needs of the undergraduate members with a system that allows us to be competitive with capacity for refrigerators, air conditioners, and computers.
